The Ministry of Rural Development and Food and the “Mediterranean Innovation Centre for One Health” (MED-OHC) have signed a memorandum of cooperation.
The competent Deputy Minister Stavros Keletsis and the President of MED-OHC Eleni Pavlidou, signed the agreement aiming at the development, dissemination and optimal implementation of the principles of One Health.
The concept of One Health is one of the main strategic objectives of the new European Union Green Deal policy. It is a holistic approach to human health, animal health and environmental protection.
Through the principles of One Health, the aim is to improve the physical and mental health of humans and animals, as well as the protection of the natural environment, with which they are inextricably linked, in order to improve public health at all levels.
As part of the promotion and advancement of One Health, Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) is the flagship action to reduce the use of antimicrobials by 50% by 2023. The National Action Plan (NAP) for Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR)of our country has been officially submitted to the EU in 2019.
MED – OHC, “Mediterranean Innovation Centre for One Health”, is a civil non-profit company established by ELGO – DIMITRA and the civil non-profit company ASCLEPIUS – ONE HEALTH and aims to transfer technology and know-how to Greece and the rest of the world, in the context of achieving strong Sustainable Development.
The MoU aims at the joint undertaking of initiatives by the parties to seek resources and utilization of financial instruments at national, European and international level, the utilization of knowledge and experience, but also the general development of science and digital innovation for the implementation of the National Action Plan for Antimicrobial Resistance.
Furthermore, it sets as a priority, through the implementation and application of a series of actions, the holistic development, dissemination and optimal application of the One Health principles with the ultimate aim of protecting Public Health.
