Sofia-Boutsini

Dr. Sofia G. Boutsini graduated from the School of Veterinary Medicine, Faculty of Health Sciences, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (SVM-AUTh), Greece, in 1981.

She started working in Athens as the owner of a Veterinary Clinic for Companion animals till 1985.

Since then she is working for the Ministry of Rural Development and Food in the Veterinary Centre of Athens, Department of Parasitology-Parasitic Diseases, Entomology & Bee Health.

In the meantime she completed her MSc from the National School of Public Health (2000) and her PhD thesis on “The distribution of canine leishmaniosis and identification of the sandflies vectors in the area of Attica” from the School of Veterinary Medicine, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (2010).

As the Head of National Reference Laboratory for Parasites she represents Greece, as an expert in all workshops and meetings in European Union.

She is also an expert of the country on vectors of veterinary importance participating in meetings/workshops concerning vector borne diseases.

She is a member of the VectorNet, European Network of Medical and Veterinary Entomology.

She has participated with oral and poster presentations in international and national congresses and she is the author of scientific papers published in national and international journals.

Her research interests include One Health, Zoonosis, Infectious Diseases, vector borne diseases and Laboratory Quality management.
